Last month has been quite a roller coaster ride for me. 🎢 Many great changes in my lifestyle and life path, but also bad ones regarding other aspects in life. But I still made it through perfectly fine. 💪🏻

YAYY! 🎉

May’s gonna be a busy month for me because of work, but I’m really glad working has been a great experience until now, so it’s still enjoyable! 💯 Also, it’s my first time working too. WHAT? 😱

I know right? 🤦🏻‍♀️ But, it’s always better to be late than never! 😅🙊

For every day in a month, I reflect on what made me happy that day. 🖊 I believe that spending some time reflecting and appreciating what life has given us is so important in today’s society, especially since the world is constantly changing and sometimes, it can make us lose ourselves. 😪

That’s why I want to share the things that made me happy! 😇 This not only keeps me accountable because of you guys, and also because it can help you facilitate your thought process if you were to also reflect on what made you happy! 😘

Hence, these were what made me happy last month:

2. celebrating monthsary and the first day my boyfriend and I met ❤️

6 WAYS YOU CAN IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Today, I want to have a little chat with you about a pretty personal topic – Mental Health. I will be sharing 6 easy ways I have improved mine and can do the same for you. 

**I am aware that mental health has been a common topic in today’s society because many people are involved in it. My tips by no means work for everyone so my apologies if I offended anyone!**

Sometimes, we all get so held back to do what we want by what life and society want us to be to the point that we tend to lose ourselves, and I am not stranger to that.

Mental health issues are so common among teenagers nowadays that it hurts to see so many of them falling victim to these.

No one deserves it.

If you are one of those who is also dealing with mental issues, I got you. We will go through this together. You’re not alone.

I find it so important to try and take control of our own mental state even when many of us find it difficult to do so because we shouldn’t let it drown us.

Here are 6 ways I do it and I hope it helps you too.

1. LISTEN TO MUSIC

This is a simple yet effective way to instantly improve your mental health!

I like to spend some time listening to my favorite songs on my speaker or with my earpiece and just “zone out” a little.

Many times, I would go all out and start singing (sometimes even dancing!) because I like to sing! Getting lost in the music and let all my stress flow away by itself. It really helps me a lot when I get stressed and need some time out.

2. DO THINGS THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

Take myself for example, I love to bake and paint. So, I know these are the things which will make me happy.

Try to find something which you enjoy doing and just focus on that and not think about anything else. It can be anything, as long as it makes you happy! Here are some activities you can consider:

1. play an instrument 🎹 (I used to play the piano when I was little)

2. DIY something 📌

3. organise the house

4. cook your favorite food 🍲

5. exercise

6. watch a movie 🎥

7. visit your favorite cafe and just relax

8. draw 🖍 or paint 🎨

9. read a book 📖

10. play games (grab a friend or family member to play with you!)

3. TALK TO SOMEONE

I usually tell my dad and my best friend everything. Like literally, EVERYTHING.

I cannot stress this enough but please, PLEASE, find someone who you can talk to without feeling put down by him/her. This is so important and even I am guilty of it.

I made several mistakes before where I told people whom I thought could be trusted. But in the end, they end up making me feel worse and I was so disappointed. I’m glad that they’re not part of my life anymore.

4. GO OUTSIDE AND SPEND QUALITY TIME ALONE

Go shop. Go walk around your neighborhood. Go visit a new cafe which you’ve been wanting to try out. Go for a walk in a park.

Do whatever it is that you like to do outside of your home. I find that going outside to get some fresh air really helps improve my mental health and make me feel free! 🤗 I enjoy visiting the botanical gardens in Singapore! This beautiful pavilion was taken there and my boyfriend and I spend hours just sitting there and chatting. 

5. WRITE IT DOWN

Whatever it is, I like writing things down. Many times, I’ll just get a piece of paper and write something down, anything from quotes, things I want to say to myself, to how I feel and what I hope to achieve. Writing helps to relief the internal stress you might have inside because you either have no one to say it to, or you just find saying things out uncomfortable. I am an introvert and this has been one of the most effective ways of making sure I don’t get overwhelmed by my thoughts.

6. JUST LET IT ALL OUT

You, listen to me. It’s okay to cry.

Crying doesn’t mean you are weak. Many people have a mindset that crying is a sign of weakness, right? I couldn’t disagree more. To me, crying is a sign of strength.

It’s the pain we’ve held it in in order to not affect the people around us. Everyone has a limit and that’s okay.

I’ve cried many many times without anyone knowing because I didn’t want to get judged or looked down on. But breaking down when we really held back so much to the point we couldn’t handle it anymore is okay.

6 WAYS YOU CAN IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

I hope that any of you who are struggling with your mental health will find these tips helpful. These tips are by no means 100% applicable to everyone because we’re all different. But I hope that I can at least help out a little, even a little can go a long way. Find what works for you and be reminded that there are no right or wrong in whatever decisions you make to look after your mental health. You are your own judge for that.

FREE WAYS TO CELEBRATE YOUR “ANNIVERSARY” AT VIVO CITY

Last week on 10 April 2018, my boyfriend and I visited Vivo City to celebrate our first “anniversary” (it was exactly one year ago when we met!). It wasn’t a big celebration, but it was definitely a meaningful and sincere memory to be kept.

Seeing his smile honestly makes me feel so accomplished as a girlfriend! Girls, get you a guy that appreciates you because you deserve it!

This is what happened:

MINI CAKE CELEBRATION

My boyfriend and I bought cakes from Swee Heng 1989 Classic as it has been one of my favorite bakeries since I was a little girl young. This is us trying to take insta-worthy photos with our cakes because “a good picture needs framing” – my boyfriend 2018.

Rainbow Cake | $3.80

I personally like this although it doesn’t have a distinct flavor in each layer (what I look for in a rainbow cake!) 🙊 It tastes like a good vanilla sponge cake though! 👍🏻 And the size seemed worth it for the price to me, although I would prefer more frosting in between the layers 😇

Chocolate Mousse | $3.50

The chocolate mousse cake is so moist! This is definitely for all you chocolate lovers out there and make sure you don’t leave the cake out in the open for too long or the frosting in between the cakes will melt.

FREE CONE DAY: BEN AND JERRY’S

Yay to FREE ice cream! We went to the outlet at Vivo City and Oh. My. God. From a distance, I see the seemingly never-ending queue. But it wasn’t that bad though (except for the hot weather!) as our turns came surprisingly fast.

That’s pretty much all that we did that day. Yeap, we didn’t do much. Just eating and eating, and more eating. But I still loved it as it was a great memory to mark our milestone together! I look forward to more days with this little pumpkin and.. just a short note to my boyfriend – happy “anniversary” boyfie!

MANDALA DRAWING: DEATHLY HALLOWS

We shall say goodbye to Monday blues now 🧐 Today, I want to share with all of you one of my first pen works! As some of you might already know, I loved art from a very, VERY, young age. 😍

This mandala was inspired by the deathly hallows (harry potter influence here!). This is definitely not an original artwork I created myself, whereas one which I found on Pinterest one fine day.

And the minute I saw that gorgeous mandala, I saved it right away and told myself: “I need to recreate this on my black sketchbook!”. 

And I did. So here you go guys! This is what the final outcome looks like:

Drawing mandalas are one of my favorite forms of art! And this pen work happened to be one of my favorites currently. ☺️

So, here it is! The Deathly Hallows, my very first mandala artwork:

I’m obsessed with this uni-ball Signo White UM-120AC* pen (the one shown above!) which I used for all my black paper works! It is a gel pen and it’s ink flows so nicely on the paper without any breakages in between. Also, the white color is really opaque on the black paper which makes it even greater! Definitely one of my most favorite pens for my artworks!

A DAY AT THE ART SCIENCE MUSEUM: FUTURE WORLD

Last year in September, I visited the Future World Exhibition at Art Science Museum with my best friend and it was SO fun and memorable!! It was truly an unforgettable experience as many works exhibited there were futuristic, and many of which also interacts with the visitors! 

As usual, us trying to capture as many Instagram worthy shots resulted in hundreds of pictures taken.

Many of them actually looks pretty much the same, but hey, it takes effort to capture that perfect shot, right?

So, these are some of the best shots we’ve taken there after hours of bending, posing, laughing and hard work :

Knowing that it is a permanent exhibition, I’ll definitely recommend any of you who are in Singapore to go visit (or maybe after your cafe hopping session)!

One down side though, is that tickets aren’t free! 😖 So, if you can afford a ticket to visit, we highly encourage you to do so.

But if you don’t, don’t worry, I got you covered. Singapore offers many free admissions to museums and exhibitions too such as the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and Art Trails!

FOOD DIARY: NEXT STOP CAFE

Today is such a beautiful day, why? Because it’s FREE BEN AND JERRY’S ICE CREAM DAY! 

It’s also exactly 1 year ago today when my boyfriend and I first met in school, so today’s our first “anniversary” (So cheesy!).

Yesterday, we made a visit to Next Stop Cafe at Jurong East, Singapore for lunch.

I heard about this cafe months ago on Burpple (a Singapore food app!) and have been wanting to try it out ever since. And now, I finally got to visit this cafe after so long! I was so busy with school that I couldn’t go anywhere.

Oh and, just a tiny-weeny bonus, the food here are mostly below $10! I repeat. Below $10. 

WHAT EVEN?? So worth it.

 

I really liked the environment as it gave off a warmth feeling, the air con was really cold and chill, and the music played just made everything more relaxing. I love how the environment just makes me feel so homey and comfy!

Want evidence? Just look at this beautiful sight.

You guys must be screaming “I’m so hungry right now, please just show me what you ate!”. I understand. 

LUNCH DATE AT THE NEXT STOP CAFE

These were what we ordered: 

Al Fungi | $6.90

I loved the Al Fungi pasta! It tastes really unique and the tomato herb sauce is just right to complement with the mushrooms! It was nothing like what I had before as other pasta I have tried. I highly recommend this!

Chicken Lasagne | $6.90

Well, aesthetics wise, it doesn’t look quite attractive. But this thing is so filling! I love how the cheese stays melted and stringy even when it turned slightly cold (great cheese that is!). This place is very generous with its tomato sauce, although it tastes slightly too sweet for my preferences. But still, not a bad choice as the chicken, pasta, and the cheese made up for it.

Iced Chocolate | $4.50

Honestly, I was really disappointed by the worthiness of this drink. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t taste bad, it just isn’t good enough to make up for the $4.50.

I personally enjoyed Al Fungi the most so do give them a try if you visit Next Stop Cafe and make sure to let me know what you think!

I will definitely go visit again and I encourage you guys to do so too! Just make sure to bring a jacket because it’s honestly freezing in there.

This cafe has 4 outlets and is located at the following places – Raffles City, Vivo City, Marina Square and East Coast Parkway.

Honestly, it takes awhile to reach those places because they are located near the town areas and the coastal area which is far away from where I live.

But for the sake of my beloved pastries, I put in a lot sweat and time to get my hands on those little heavens.

So worth it.

Growing up, I am not the type of girl to like going to cafes because I thought that the only difference between cafes and other food places are just, well, the environment!

However, I do enjoy visiting cafes once in awhile to indulge in some warm and delicious pastries or to catch up with my friends.

A COZY DATE AT ST. MARC CAFE

St. Marc Cafe is one of my most favorite cafes in the whole of Singapore! Not only is quality food provided for its customers, it also provides a cozy and warm environment, a great option for people who likes to spend time just chilling out!

Here are some foods I would highly recommend you guys to try if you visit:

Chococro | $2.60

One of my favorites!

This is the bestseller at the cafe, and the reason is simple – not only is the pastry flaky and crunchy, it also comes with warm chocolate which slowly ooze out in the middle when I bite into it!

The chococro also comes in different flavors such as Banana Coffee, Thai Milk Tea, Raspberry White Chocolate and Pink Peppercorn!

Butter Danish | $2.90

This is my personal favorite which I like to get when I visit.

Flaky on the outside, soft on the inside, the butter danish also provides a not too overly sweet sensation from the almonds and glaze on top in every bite. This pastry is one which I’ll always recommend to any of my friends!

Apart from this, it also has a Cinnamon Raisin version (which costs $3.50) as an option, perfect for warm cozy dates!

Little Fuji | $6.90

Ice cream seemingly represents the shape of Fuji mountain? No wonder this dessert is called “Little Fuji”!

Topped with vanilla ice cream soft serve and drizzled with warm caramel sauce, this dessert is definitely a must try for first-timers, although I haven’t tried it before myself.

This pastry is also recommended by many famous food bloggers like Daniel Food Diary here in Singapore! So I guess it really is a must try?
